Ohne D.O.A. hätte es Bands wie die Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day, Rancid oder The Offspring niemals gegeben. Aber Punk ist mehr als nur ein Musikstil: Es ist eine Lebenseinstellung. D.O.A. haben in ihrer Geschichte unzählige Benefiz-Shows für Greenpeace gespielt, sind immer entschieden gegen die Globalisierung eingetreten, halfen Verge-waltigung-sopfern und kämpften für die Rechte von Häftlingen. Während ihrer langen und aufregenden Karriere teilten D.O.A. die Bühne mit Bands wie The Clash, The Ramones, Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, Nirvana, PIL und Minor Threat. Mit dem Buch »Ich, Shithead. Mein Leben als Punk« hat Joe Keithley seine Memoiren geschrieben. Ein Tribut an ein paar desillusionierte Kids aus Vancouver, die mit dem gesellschaftlichen Status Quo der Siebziger Jahre gebrochen hatten und sich der aufkeimenden Punk-Bewegung anschlossen. Touren, Tragödien, Totalabstürze: »Mein Leben als Punk« ist eine Lektion darin, wie man auch die größten Hindernisse durch schier übermenschliches Vertrauen in die eigene Stärke überwinden kann. Auf jede Seite ist Joeys berühmter Slogan "Talk minus Action = Zero" förmlich eingemeißelt. Joey Shithead Keithley, Gründer von D.O.A. und Sudden Death Records (www.suddendeath.com), ist Musik-, Politik- und Umweltaktivist. Er lebt mit seiner Frau und ihren gemeinsamen drei Kindern in Vancouver. Vor einigen Monaten erschien auf Sudden Death Records (als insgesamt 74. Veröffentlichung des Labels) sein Solo-Album »Band of Rebels« (unter gütiger Mithilfe von zwölf Gastmusikern). Im Herbst 2007 werden D.O.A. wieder live in Deutschland zu sehen sein. In Kanada wurde »Ich, Shithead. Mein Leben als Punk« von Amazon in die Top 25 der besten "Non-Fiction"-Bücher gewählt! Die deutsche Übersetzung des Buches stammt von Tommy Molotow, seines Zeichens Gründer der deutschen Kultpunkband Canalterror (heute bei Molotow Soda tätig) und hauptberuflich Fanbetreuer des FC St. Pauli.
