[Insert] Digital mastering, 1999, by Erick Labson at MCA Music Media Studios, and Jeff Willens at Universal Music Studios-East Except for the four selections from the 1939 recording session, this compilation has been prepared by transfers to digital tape from the original Commodore acetate master discs. Of those four tracks, recorded before acetate masters were in general use, "Strange Fruit" was the only one with a still-usable original metal part. "Yesterdays" and "I Gotta Right to Sing the Blues" were transferred from Commodore test pressings, and "Fine and Mellow" from a 78 rpm shellac record provided by Steven Lasker. Congoman/Congoman Chant are taken from the master tape for Island Black Swan 12" issue, first released in 1977 and not available since then. Bring The Mackaback is a dub version to Fisherman previously available as a Jamaican 7" B-side released on the Upsetter label. Noah Sugar Pan is Scratch's B-side dub mix to the Black Art label 7" of Ark of the Covenant first issued in 1977. Solid Foundation is from the master tape of the Jamaican Upsetter 12" mix.
